Yummy on Sunday

The recipe of my grandfather : Zopf - made by my husband

Upon request : here's the recipe

1 kg of smooth flour
4 teaspoons of salt
120 gr of butter
6 dl of milk (luke warm)
30 gr of fresh yeast
1 egg

Put the flour on your workingspace
and make a vulcano :-)
mix a little of the milk with the yeast
put the salt on the craterwalls of the vulcano :-)
in the hole in the middle put the milk, butter, yeast mix
and 1 egg and start to mix
knead, knead, knead
until you get an soft and elastic dough
put this on a warm spot an let it rise until doubled
split the dough in 2 parts and make large sausages of each part
put these sausages crossed over each other and
start to braid :
up to down
down to up
left to right
right to left
...
tuck in the rest at the end
put away covered again to rise for about 20 to 30 '
make a mix of some egg yellow and cream and
coat the bread
put it in the oven at 200 ° for about 30 ' to 40 '
This amount is enough for 1 large bread or 2 smaller ones.
