Back in the sixties and seventies it was fashionable to wear a 'postiche'.
When I had a haircut, well, the hair was made into a postiche for my mother, as it was very fashionable those days to have a coiffure with some extra hair. (nowadays too, but they have the clip-in things)
As my grandfather was a hairdresser, he always insisted to make my hair that was long enough into a postiche after having cut it.
The one on the left is about 44 years old and still in a perfect condition, the other ones are when I was aged about 8 and 12.

quite a difference :-)
Does anyone have a clue what technique is used to make these ?
It's very well made, you can brush it, no hair comes out, still after all these years.

Ooh, wat een mooi haar! Misschien eens bij een pruikenmakerij (of hoe noemen ze zoiets) informeren naar techniek? Het ziet er ook ongedragen prachtig uit, lijkt wel een soort macramé.

Grappig, ik heb ook nog ergens een gelijkaardig staartje van mezelf liggen, van toen ik een jaar of 5-6 was. We zijn ongeveer even jong, dus ik vermoed dat het toen in was bij kappers om zo'n haarstukje te laten maken als er een groot stuk geknipt werd :-)

o sandra wat een heerlijk verhaal ...prachtige lokken trouwens ...ik heb hier nog een staart liggen van een tiental jaren gelden maar geen grootvader om daar een postiche van te maken ...

I find it so interesting that hair colour changes with age. For me, it is from charcoal black to white, in an instant; no inbetween shades...
Could is be something like macrame? What do you think?

Ik kan het niet laten van denken : hoe zag je er dan uit als je van de kapper kwam ? zo goed als kaal zeker ? thhihihi.... Lieve opa was dat zeg !

It's amazing Sandra! At first I thought it was silk, before seeing the following pictures... It's very interesting, I love the victorian reference with your contemporary design, to have a hair jewel done with your hair or from the loved ones
